'ON STAGE' PATHWAY (PARTICIPATION IN A PRODUCTION): 7 JUNE — 14 JULY 2027

A residency open to singers and pianists, as well as vocal coaches, who are at the early stages of their careers.

Applicants may apply for both programmes; the selection panel reserves the right to place the successful artist on one or the other programme depending on their profile.

For nearly 30 years, the Académie du Festival d'Aix has been committed to serving as a foundation for a new generation of artists, creating inspiring residency programmes that blend tradition and innovation. Lyric art, the origin of opera, is one of its distinctive features. The Academy provides a space for work and career development for international artists, facilitating encounters with renowned vocal coaches.

This year, the 'Résidence Voix' programme is strengthening its support for early-career singers and young artists by offering two pathways designed to enhance both stage and recital practice for singers, pianists and vocal coaches:

  • The 'Recital' pathway

  • The 'Stage' pathway

The Residency will also feature a series of activities, including participation in musical events organised in collaboration with the Festival's Passerelles programme.

The educational focus will be reinforced by workshops on career management, artists' rights, physical wellbeing and mental preparation — activities that, beyond professional practice, are designed to help artists prepare to take to the stage in the best possible condition.

The Voice Residency receives support from the Fondation Société Générale its main sponsor, Adami, and sponsorship from the Caisse des Dépôts.
Yamaha is supporting pianists/vocal coaches for the residency.

RECITAL' PATHWAY

Continuing to build on its tradition of innovative initiatives, the 2027 edition of the 'Voix' Residency will showcase repertoire of the 20th and 21st centuries, with a particular focus on musical theatre.

The recital programme offers 10 singers and 3 pianists/vocal coaches individual coaching sessions, public masterclasses, and a series of themed concerts centred on famous opera and musical theatre arias and/or contemporary vocal styles. The residency will conclude with a closing concert with orchestra.

Across the various concerts, the artists will sometimes perform in duets, trios, small ensembles or as part of a choir, in addition to their solo performances.

'ON STAGE' PATHWAY

This second programme invites six singers (two sopranos, one mezzo-soprano, two tenors including one tenor capable to singing up to C and one countertenor) to join a group of soloists in the rehearsals and stage performances of the 2027 world premiere production (under an employment contract and remunerated in accordance with the applicable collective agreement).

At the same time, the six artists will benefit from individual coaching sessions (singing lessons, preparation, etc.).
